Welte-Mignon : 1905 - 2005
To accompany Pianola Journal no. 16, of 2005, the Institute recorded a CD of Welte-Mignon
performances by a variety of historic pianists. The original rolls were recorded between
1905 and 1910, and the CD marked the centenary of the Welte-Mignon. The instrument used was a Steinway-Welte
grand piano, made in 1922, and restored by Denis Hall. The reproduction of the performances
sets a very high standard indeed, and brings to life both well-known and forgotten
artists from the romantic piano era.
A small number of extra copies of the CD were made, and are available separately from
the Pianola Journal. The CD comes in a colour-printed cardboard cover, with full details
of the works performed, but no booklet.
